A refreshing breeze was a wel comed added entry to the day as FFA and 4-H dahy animals ga thered at the Grange Fairgrounds facilities for the Susquehanna Dis trict 4-H/FFA Dairy Show recent ly. The breeze made sweltering temperatures more tolerable for those judging, watching, and showing as judges circled the ring, eyeing animals in five separate breed showsi By 3:30 in the afternoon, type judge Cteedin Comman of Cum berland County had picked cham pions in each breed and then se lected the supreme champion of the show. The retired dairy farmer chose Dianne Clock’s aged cow for that honor. The Juniata County 4-H’er also won best bred and owned Hpnors with that same Hol stein cow, Walnut-Hills Astro Bri gette. Reserve supreme champion Holstein grand champion honors went to Ronald Hough Jr. of Centre County and his aged cow, left. Reserve grand champion went to David Kocher, also of Centre County, and his junior 2-year-old, right. went to a Jersey Calf owned by Stephanie Lynn Donough, also of Juniata County. Milking Shorthorn entered the ring first. Melissa Wolfe of Ly coming County took all champion honors. Her junior 2-year-old won grand champion honors while her spring calf earned reserve grand champion and junior champion. Reserve junior champion went to Wolfe’s Spring Yearling. In the Brown Swiss Show, ex cept for junior champion, Clinton County took all champion honors. Grand champion went to Jeremy Daubert of McElhattan and his senior 3-year-old, while Lauren Daubert took reserve grand cham pion and best bred and owned with her senior 2-year-old. Junior champion went to Alicia Wolfe of Lycoming County, and reserve junior champion went to Jeremy Daubert and his fall yearling. Melissa Wolfe of Riverside, Lycoming County, took all top honors in the District Milking Shorthorn show. Her ani mals, left to right, are grand champion, reserve grand and Junior champion, and reserve Junior champion. The grand champion Jersey was a junior 2-year-old shown by Jen nifer Kellerman of Centre County. Reserve grand champion went to Seth Derr of Lycoming County and his junior 3-year-old. The junior champion Jersey was also the show’s best bred and owned animal, a fall calf shown by Ste phanie Donough of Juniata Coun ty. Reserve junior champion and reserve best bred and owned went to Jennifer Kellerman’s spring calf. Lycoming County took most champion honors in the Ayrshire show. Roberta Fogleman’s aged cow won grand champion honors while reserve grand champion and junior champion honors went to Charles Liner of Centre County. Reserve senior champion honors were earned by Rae Ann Fogleman of Muncy. Charles Liner’s fall calf won reserve junior champion hon ors for him. Best bred and owned went to Rae Ann Fogleman and her senior 2-year-old. Ronald Hough of Centre Coun ty won grand champion of the Holstein show with his aged cow C Kallanda Astro Jet Lary. Re serve grand champion was Hearts- Desire Jethro Carla, a junior 2-year-old shown by David Koch er of Centre County. A spring calf owned by Keri Connelly won both junior champion and reserve best bred and owned, while Amanda Fraley’s spring yearling won re serve junior champion. Blue ribbon winners qualify for state competition to be held Mon day, Sept. 25, at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Sue Beshore of Cumberland County served as showmanship judge and Dr. Patricia Kitchen of Montour County awarded fitting honors.
