Shannon, who also serves as
state FFA chapl#, showed his

gilL which he said he picked from
a group of 20 hodt shown to him
by Ezra Good. Slfitaon purchased
the Babcock hogfrom Jerry Hos
teler. Hatfield* purchased the
championship hog for $3 per
pound, for a total of $750.
Shannon, 17, son of Harvey and
Marlene Horst, Narvon, said when
he looks for show hogs, he looks
for those that would “make a big
hog, but on a smaller scale." The
Hampshire cross had “nice hams.
If you find one that has nice hams,
you might as well gp for it” Shan
non is a graduate of Garden Spot
High School.
Shannon will be showing hogs
at various fairs, including Eli
zabethtown, Ephrata, and New
Holland, and at the state Farm
Show.
Dale Livengeod said it was
'‘beginner’s luck” that allowed
him to show his first-time reserve
champion hog. This was Dale’s
bale Livengood, 17, left, son of Earl and Joyce Liven
good, Lampeter, showed his 251-pound Hampshire
crossbred gilt to reserve champion. Leidy's, represented by
Leon Stoltzfus, purchased the reserve champion for $2 per
pound, for a total of $502.

Dale, a junior at Faith Mennonite
High School, wil be showing three
hogs at Elizabethtown and three at
the Lampeter Fair.
Leidy’s, represented by Leon
Stoltzfus, purchased the reserve
champion for $2 per pound, for a
total of $502.
There were a- total of 110 hogs
and 21 buyers. Judge for the show
was Henry Holloway, a Yorkshire
breeder from Darlington, Md.
Auctioneer was John D. Stauffer.

Club members.attended the annual
Goshen Fair Steer Show on Satur
day, Aug. S.
Judge for the show was Keith
Bryan from Penn State University,
where he is the coach of the Live
stock Judging Team as well as an
animal science instructor.
The evening started with the
weigh-in of the show steers, in
which they were divided into four
weight class divisions.
In the lightweight division, loc
al winner was Jonathan Howe.

These 4-H. members will exhi
bit! their county steers for their
final show and sale as they will
end their beef projects at the con
clusion of this show. By members
selling their project steers, they
can use the sale money to purch
ase new calves for next year or by
saving up for a college education.
The show and sale will be held
at the Kimberton Fire Company
Fairgrounds on Aug. 18, with the
show starting at 9 a.m. followed
by the sale at 1 p.m.
