The Sale Committee, consisting of swine breeders and Swine Technical Committee members, met July 27 to score the boars for soundness and to determine which boars should be offered for sale. The 10-member committee con siders this to be the overall best group of boars to be offered for sale in their memory. This group has the lowest number of unsound boars ever and their performance broke all records. A Duroc boar consigned by Calvin H. Lazarus set an all-time average daily gain record for Pennsylvania of 2.93 pounds. This boar was the 3rd highest indexing individual boar and was one of the pen of four boars that recorded the top pen index. The top individual indexing boar was the outstanding York shire sired by BDo4Zing 31-3 consigned by Henry Holloway. This boar gained 2.71 pounds per day, had .46 inches of fat, and had a final index of 158. The second highest indexing pen of boars, the Pietrains from Brian Lake, included the second highest index ing individual boar. This complete boar gained 2.49 pounds per day, had a feed efficiency of 2.13 pounds of feed per pound of gain, a fat thickness of .43 inches and an adjusted loin-eye area of 6.95 square inches.
