The showing and fitting con
test, always a closely contested
event, was judged by Mike Kunk
le, Jonestown, who is employed
by Sire Power Inc. and Jeff Hos
tetler, of Annville, a senior at Penn
State.
Champion first year showman
ship honors went to John Van-
Wye, Downingtown. Rachel Gi
biah, Kennett Square, was the re
serve champion first year
showmanship winner.
For the first year fitting honors,
the judges also chose John and
Rachel for champion and reserve
champion, respectfully.
In the junior division, under 14
years old, Meredith Baily, West
Chester, was named junior cham
pion showman/fitter and Erica
Lloyd, Pottstown, took the reserve
ribbon.
The senior division saw Tank
Gaffney. Downingtown, win the
championship and Ben Hendricks,
Phoenixville. close behind taking
the second slot.
Both Mike Kunkle and Jeff
Hostetler complimented the 4-H
members on the excellent way
they prepared and presented their
animals in the show ring.
There was also a pre-4-H show
ing event for youngsters under
eight years old. The show con
cluded with a showmanship class
of 4-H alumni, 4-H parents and
4-H leaders. There was a lot of
heckling from the youth and the
audience before Mildred Seeds
narrowly edged out the other
adults.
The 4-H program received con
siderable financial support from
business and individuals this year
with over $1,600 being raised
through paid advertisements in the
catalog. These funds are used to
support the program for the year.
