issues at Penn State’s Ag Progress
Days, August 15-17.
Buses will depart daily from the
Conservation Education Tent on
West 11th Street to take visitors
on various tours demonstrating
conservatiort techniques.
The stream corridor manage
ment tour centers on how stream
crossings and streambank fencing
can improve natural waterways.

27th annual Ag Progress Days,
sponsored by Penn State’s College
of Agricultural Sciences, August
15-17.
Penn State faculty and staff will
offer exhibits and presentations to
help agricultural producers reduce
soil erosion and protect ground
water supplies by complying with
new soil conservation and nutrient
management regulations.
Displays for consumers will high
light the importance of clean
drinking water, water conserva
tion, water testing and proper well
construction.

on forestry and wildlife will high
light small woodlot management
Topics such as harvesting trees to
generate income, forest regenera
tion and road and trail mainten
ance will be addressed. A special
demonstration will explain how to
use warm-season grasses as a
wildlife cover. Buses to the walk
ing trail leave daily every hour
starting at 10 a.m.
On the agricultural conserva
tion tour, farm operators can learn
how conservation practices can
protect soil and improve water
quality. Crop residue manage
ment, contour stripcropping, crop-

The on-farm composting tour
offers information on recycling
manure and other materials. Visi
tors can see composted farm waste
at various stages. Compost will be
turned during the 10:30 a.m.,
12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. tours. In
addition, finished poultry compost
will be shown in a poultry mortali
ty composting bin. Buses leave
hourly from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

morous opinions about conserva
