The price of milk hit the roof at the 1995 Troy Fair as youth auctioned off gallons and quarts of milk from the champion dairy animals shown at the annual youth show. One gallon of milk from David Packard’s supreme champion topped the sale at $675. Gray’s Trucking of Rome purchased the decorated gallon container filled with the “white gold.” Pelton Trucking was the second top bidder as representatives entered the final bid of $4OO for a quart of milk contributed by Jill Sheeley’s reserve grand champion Holstein. Pelton trucking was also the high volume buyer, having also purchased a basket of Bradford County products including cheese, meat, honey, maple syrup and other goodies for $2OO. The feed and supply store contri buted $390 in support of the program. According to Bonnie Borek, co chairman for the event, this was one of the best milk auctions ever. The average on milk sold from eight containers of milk and three baskets filled with Bradford Coun ty products was well over $2BO. “I was very, very impressed with the cooperation of the kids and the buyers. Everyone’s been wonderful. I’d like to give a spe cial thanks to everyone who parti cipated,” said Borek. The proceeds from the auction are divided between the 4-H or FFA member who sold the milk, the member’s 4-H club or FFA chapter and the county organization.
