Penn State’s Dairy Science Club Is National Champion UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) Penn State’s Dairy Sci ence Club placed first in outstand ing chapter competition at the an nual meeting of the Student Affili ate Division of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA-SAD) held at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, last month. The club is now five times national champion. Follow ing Penn State in this year’s com petition were Cal Poly in second and Virginia Tech in third. Jayne Hess (Gettysburg) and Carrie Bryant (Honesdale) were co-editors of this year’s award winning annual. Jayne Hess was named out standing senior of the Student Af filiate Divison for her work with the Penn State Dairy Science Club over the past three years and her leadership in ADSA-SAD. Hess was a very active club member, having served as Cheesebox Sale chair, two-time yearbook editor, and chair of Foster Family Farm Day. Recently she graduated with high est distinction and is now employ ed by Mid-Atlantic Milk Market ing Association. She completed her term as ADSA-SAD third vice president at the Cornell meetings. In this year’s undergraduate presentation competition, Marsha Chess (Fredonia), a sophomore majoring in Dairy and Animal Science, placed third in the dairy products division with her paper. Milk is it still perfect? Matt Espenshade (Elizabeth town), a senioir in the Dairy and Animal Science major, competed in the production division. His topic was on The European Ani mal Rights Movement and Its Ef fects on U.S. Animal Production. Dairy and Animal Science junior Carrie Bryant discussed the Penn State Dairy Jubilee in the ac tivities symposium and was elect ed second vice president of the na tional association for the coming year. Charles Houp (sophomore) and Howard Reybum (senior) also represented the Dairy Science Club at the Cornell meeting.
