    Ohio Heifer Takes Supreme Honors At Somerset Jackpot Show

MEYERSDALE (Somerset
Co.) —The summer day was made
to order for Andy Campbell of
Eaton, Ohio, on July 9 when his
heifer was named supreme
champion at the Somerset County
Jackpot Show.
Julie DeChristofaro, 13, of
Niles, Ohio had die grand champ
ion steer which she showed in
class six and which won the Divi
sion II champion title.
Judge Jim Dill from Murfrees
boro, Tenn. liked the steer’s body
configuration and said it was a
firm handling steer. He praised the
steer’s overall look.
The reserve grand champion
steer belonged to Carl Dctwiler
Julie DeChristofaro, Niles, Ohio, left, had the steer

“He’s the most complete in the
class,” Dill said, “A very deep

Amanda Darr of Boswell won
the county exhibitor title as well as
the Somerset County Club Calf
Sale champion.
The animal was second in class
eight, the middle steer of a trio of
top three class winners that Dill
called “mighty powerful.” It was
purchased from Mark and Loretta
Davis of Burbank, Ohio.
Darr is 13. She’s the only child
of Shelley and Metta Darr of
Boswell.

In all, 100 animals were shown,
86 of them steers and 14 heifers.
Dill said he was impressed with
die show and saw powerhouse
steers in the class champions.
“The quality was deep and close,”
he said.
“I was hired for my opinion
today and I looked for what I
would want in my own herd,” he
told the audience.
Participants this year came
from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mary
land, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Spokesman Sam Armstrong said
the show was bigger than last
year.
The event was sponsored by the
Somerset County Beef Producers
and Pennsylvania Cattleman’s
Association.
