PHILADELPHIA The 9lh
Annual Pennsylvania Fair was
held recently at the Philadelphia
Park Racetrack. Approximately
2SO exhibitors participated in the
event
Competitive exhibits created a
colorful array of homemade and
homegrown products. Best of

Along with the competitive
exhibits, four large animal shows
were conducted during the 12
days of the show. Youth, open
class beef, sheep, 4-H sheep and
goats, and potbellied pigs were
shown.
Agriculture coordinator for the
show was Beverly Gruber of New

Field Day
GROVE CITY (Mercer Co.)
On July 15, Haven Woods Farms,
in conjunction with the Pennsyl
vania Cattlemen’s Association
and the Pennsylvania Simmental
Association, will host a cattle
men’s Field Day and Junior Show
At Haven Woods main farm com
plex located at 1919 Henderson
ville Rd. just north of Grove City.
Haven Woods Farms, establish
ed in 1990 by owner Bob McQuis
ton, is a modem Simmental breed
ing operation incorporating many
innovative farming trends.
With a herd of 124 Simmental
cattle, a new prefabricated metal
bam and machine shed designed
by Flexospan Inc., and a modem
stall system to look over, this field
day should be interesting and in
formative to all cattlemen.
Approximately 40 percent of
Haven Woods cattle are produced
from embryo transplant. Visitors
will have an opportunity to ob-

simmental embryo donor cows
and heifers from as far away as the
Midwest, bringing new and im
proved bloodlines to Pennsylva
nia’s simmental herd.
Owner Bob McQuiston will
also host a junior show and will
offer demonstrations of baleage
wrapping, show grooming, and a
nutrition seminar. Food and re
freshments will be available.

Supreme champion beef animal was shown by Troy Gel

Margaret Haynie showed the grand champion boar pot
bellied pig.
