816-Lancaster Farming,'Saturday, July 1,1995 4-H Camp 4-H Camp blazed a trail to the O.K. Corral this summer. Over night Camp was held at Camp Eder near Fairfield, from June 12 through June 15, with 77 Adams County 4-H members and 22 4-H members from Franklin County attending. 4-H members attended work shops such as recreation, compara tive judging, nature/wildlife, pup petry, and crafts. Tuesday night campers got the chance to put on their boots and learn country line dances. Wednesday brough cheer and laughter with a special puppet show involving each camper. Thursday morning provided cam pers with the opportunity to choose an intensive workshop where they could bake bread, learn about horses, study stream quality, make reed baskets or lest their accuracy with shooting sports. 4-H Camp ended with a special campfire program where each group performed skits and commercials, pre sented costumes, ban ners and gifts and joined for a candlelighting ceremony. Overnight 4-H camp was conducted by coun ty extension staff and volunteers. 4-H teens served as group counse lors and workshop counselors. York County 4-H Beef Club The York County 4-H Beef Club held its monthly meeting June S at Bair Station. The York County 4-H Fair will be held at the 4-H Center in Bair Sta tion July 16 thru July 22. The beef club will have its Beef Show for the first time at the new exhibition center behind the 4-H Center on July 22 starting at 7 a.m. Discussion was held on obtaining bark chips for the show and if any of the other livestock clubs would participate. President Jason Bair and Jay Rishel will be look ing into options, and will be presented at the next meet ing. The next meeting will be a Mceting/Picnic held at the 4-H Center at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 10. Each family is to bring a dish to pass and their own place settings. Club will provide meat, rolls, and condiments. If your last name begins with any letter A-M, bring a dessert; R-Y bring a hot dish or a salad. Remember to bring your note book, project book, and pencil to this meeting. Upcoming events are York County 4-H livestock judging con test on July 6 at the 4-H Center Livestock Exhibition Building and State 4-H Days from July 25 - 27 at Penn State main campus. The mini-camp will be staged on July 11-13 from 8 a.m.-noon each day. The instructor will be Sam Marek, Junior 4-H leader. The purpose of the camp is to develop die skills of beginning archers and to strengthen the shooting skills of youth who are currently involved in archery. According to Sanford Smith, Warren County, extension agent, “The camp is intended to be a con tinuation of the basic skills devel opment that many youth begin at 4-H camp or at a day camp.” The camp will be staged at the Warren Archery Club’s facilities outside of Warren. Equipment is not provided. Youth are expected to have and use their own equipment. How ever, Warren County 4-H is cur rently seeking donations of used or new youth bows (15-20 pounds), either recurve or com pound, to be used for instruction at this and other 4-H day camps. Willis Fair 4-H Show May 20 at the Howard County Fairground turned out to be a per fect show day for everyone. The Milking Shorthorns were the top of the line. There were se ven exhibitors and 14 head of cat tle. Intermediate heifer calf was won by Heather Hines, senior heifer calf was won by Adam Har vey, junior yearling heifer was won by Sherry Albaugh, and sec ond place went to Heather Hines. Third went to Kellie Burner. Intermediate yearling was won by Sherry Albaugh. Junior cham pion Milking Shorthorn was won by Heather Hines with Honey Creek Princess Ida. Reserve champion Milking Shorthorn was won by Sherry Albaugh with R.A.C.B. Sandy’s Rosemary. Junior 2-year-old was won by Heather Hines. Crystal, the daughter of Leßoy and Sally Kolb of Spring City, comes from a long line of dairy farmers. This outgoing 13-year old loves a challenge and looks forward to new learning experi ences. When not involved with her own cows or the dairy industry, you might find Crystal out practic ing with the Owen J. Roberts track team! Julie is the 13-year-old daught er of David and Holly Sollenber ger of Spring City, and owns her own dairy cows. Her active Harvey, and third, Jenny Miller. Senior 2-year-old was won by Shaima Smith. Dry cow was won by Adam Harvey. Senior cham pion Milking Shorthorn was Shan na Smith with R.A.C.B. Promist B.T. Promise. Reserve champion was Adam Harvey with Horizon K£. Kat Ex. During her aunt’s reign as Chester County Dairy Princess, Julie really enjoyed helping to promote dairy products around the county. During the coronation, Karen presented an informative speech on osteoporosis to the audience of family and well wishers. In the coming year, she will attend a training seminar and the Pennsyl vania Dairy Princess Pageant in September. Duties will include visits to schools, store promotions, civic groups, and farm meetings.
