Don’t let a leaky tractor lire rob hours from your workday. Take a preventive maintenance approach by using a tire sealant to slop air loss, protect against flat tires, and reduce downtime. Tires remain the number one cause of downtime for farmers, said Carmen Martin, product and pricing analyst. New Holland Parts and Service Operations. However, a tire sealant can help farmers save on their service re pair bills plus, provide longer, maintenance-free vehicle work hours. Practicing preventive main tenance with tire sealants costs lit tle compared to the time and mon ey it saves. According to Martin, many New Holland dealers, as standard operating practice, install tire seal ant in new equipment tires prior to delivery, so the equipment is ready to go when customers are. It’s also a good idea for farmers or dealers to install tire sealant as part of a pre-season equipment checkup. “When a puncture of up to ihrcc-sixteenihs of an inch in dia meter occurs, the escaping air forces the sealant directly to the leak, making a solid, permanent repair from the inside out How ever, if the tire’s structure is des troyed by a slice or large puncture, the tire can not seal,” Martin said. “Our sealants are guaranteed to perform for the life of the tread, always maintaining air pressure in the lire. “Use a sealant that conditions the inner-liner to prevent dry rot and cracking, which can lead to chronic slow air loss and early tire failure,” Martin said. “The sealant helps the tire maintain a constant recommended air pressure.” Martin said a major rubber company has verified the compati bility of New Holland sealants with inner-liner compounds. The sealant also protects the tube in the same man ner, helping to prevent tube rot. DMI Takes Bold Step For Safety GOODFELD, 111. DMI, Inc. has taken a bold initiative by adopting, as standard equipment with no deduct option, warning and taillights on all of its fall pull type primary tillage products. This product decision was in re sponse to DMTs goal to improve visibility of the implement during transport. In support of industry self-regu lation, equipment standards have been developed by ASAE, FEMA (Farm Equipment Manufacturers’ Association), and EMI (Equip ment Manufactures’ Institute). DMI urges and recommends other farm equipment manufacturers to adopt these standards. By moving forward with this initiative, DMI makes health and safety a key cri teria in its product development process in addition to durability. Asgrow Ready KALAMAZOO, Mich. Soy bean producers have another op tion in their weed-control pro grams with the introduction of six new Asgrow Roundup Ready™ soybean varieties. The introduc tions come on the heels of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval in late May allowing Roundup® herbicide to be spray ed over Roundup Ready soybeans. The six Asgrow Roundup Ready varieties are positioned in Group 111 through Group VI ma turities, and are being produced this year for planting in 1996. For ’96, Asgrow will have the widest range of varieties available and more than 80 percent of the supply of Roundup Ready soybeans, ac cording to Wayne Hoener, As grow soybean product manager. Roundup Ready soybeans con tain a gene that allows Roundup herbicide to be applied over the top of soybean plants for broad spectrum weed control. Asgrow Roundup Ready varie ties will be designated with the prefix “AG” followed by a four digit number ending in “01”, i.e. Asgrown AG3OOI. This distin guishes them from traditional As grow varieties, which carry an “A” before a four-digit number. Asgrow will have hundreds of Roundup Ready demonstration plots planted in soybean produc tion areas throughout the U.S. In addition, trials will be planted at all Asgrow Concept Farms, which will host Technology Days'and other events this summer to intro duce Roundup Ready soybeans to customers. “Our research team began crossing with Roundup Ready The boards of directors of both companies approved the acquisi tion on April 9. With the acquisi tion, Ingersoll-Rand also gains Blaw-Knox pavers, Clark-Hurth axles and transmissions, and Club Car golf carts and light-utility vehicles. “The Melroe product lines enjoy excellent reputations within their market segments. Not only are they complementary to Ingersoll-Rand’s businesses, but they are market leaders with strong potential for growth ground the world,” said James E. Roundup Ready soybeans offer growers more weed-control op tions by allowing use of Roundup herbicide in a crop where it pre viously could be used only in pre cise spot sprays or in rope-wick applications. • AG3OOI.
