As the primary source of agri cultural information for NASS data, this survey is one of the largest and most important con ducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultur al Statistics Service (NASS). The resulting information will be used to make reliable state, reg ional, and national estimates of crop acreage, grain stocks, and hog inventories. The Pennsylvania Agricultural Statistics Service (PASS) in Harrisburg is handling die Pennsylvania portion of the survey. This June survey is particularly vital. It will provide the first clear indications of the potential pro duction of major crops throughout the state. Producers themselves rely on the data to reach valid production. Congresspersons and regu lators use the information to pro duce better regulations and farm programs. Industry analysts, extension agents, farm organizations, and agricultural lenders need the infor mation to better serve and advise farmers and enable them to make decisions for both short and long range planning of their crop and/ or livestock operations. It is therefore important for Pennsylvania farmers to partici pate in the survey to ensure that local agriculture is accurately por trayed. Most producers selected for interviews will soon be noti fied by mail. “We safeguard the confidential ity of all survey responses,” Wally Evans, state statistician, said. “Data about individual operations are used only in conjunction with information from other produ cers.” Participants may receive sum marized survey results for Pen nsylvania and the nation upon request. “When we were looking for a milk market, we chose Atlantic Dairy Cooperative because of its financial stability. ADC is a progressive cooperative that concentrates on what it does best - marketing milk. ' —John Mayer Taneytovm, MD
