Grain Market
ST JOSEPH, MO
MAY 17, 1995
Wheat bids finished mostly lower on
plsnting optimism and profit taking on the
board. Com bids extended gains due to
continued rain delayed planting and good
export demand. Slight weakness noted in
bean pin stemmed from profit ukmg after
yesterday's sharp gains and ideas com
acres may be switch to beans. Wheat 4 to 9
cents lower except Portland 4 cents higher.
Com 2 to 4 cents higher. Sorghum 2 to 7
cents lusher. Soybeans 1 cent lower.
Spring wheat planting progress in parts
of the Northern Plains and dryer weather
expected, pressured wheat bids. Upcoming
harvest pressure offered weakness as wint
er wheat crop still looking good. Export
sales improved today but this week’s
orders have been small. Additional gains in
com bids were due to continued heavy
rains and flooding in many areas of the
Com Belt Forecasts call for mote moisture
throughout the week. Concerns that com
acres may be switched if wet conditions
persist, added strength to bids. Export
demand has been good this week and
today's substantial purchase from South
Korea was positive. Active fund buying on
the board was also noted.
Soybean bid* inched lower on ideas
more beans may be (darned due to wet
weather in parts of the Com Belt Profit
taking after shaip gains in Tuesday's trade,
pressured bids. Export demand improved
slightly with Taiwan’s offer but sales are
down.
