part of a Thursday morning prayer
group.
“Sometimes my children say I
can’t believe you do all that work
without getting paid,” Sandy said
of her volunteer duties. “But I
think it’s important for our child
ren to see us giving time in volun
teer positions. I hope our children
pick up the joy of doing things for
others.”
Sandy is also active in Sewing
Circle activities at her church. She
has fond memories of accompany-.,
ing her mother to the monthly
meetings and is pleased that her
daughters absorbed pleasant times
while accompanying her.
When the Lusbys’ youngest
daughter started kindergarten, she
told her mother: ‘Tell the ladies at
Sewing Circle that I’m sorry that 1
can’t be there, but I must go to
kindergarten.”
Lusby also helps with county
dairy promotion by serving milk
shakes at various events.

The cows are kept in the bam dur
ing the day when the weather is hot
and put out to pasture at night. In
the winter, the cows are let out to
the bulk feeder and then let back in
the bam.
Sandy sometimes thinks she’s in
the wrong profession because she
is hates to see animals become sick
and die.
“My husband tells me that as
long as we have cows, death hap
pens. I wish I could learn to accept
that, but everytime I see one sick,
it’s so upsetting.”
But much more frustrating than
dealing with animal sickness and
death, the Lusbys say, is coping
with all the government regula
tions.
