(DPI), the nonprofit trade associa
tion working for the continued
progress of Delmatva’s poultry in
dustry, exceeded its 1995 Fund
Drive goal with cash and pledges
totaling $497,040.
That news was announced by
Fund Drive Chairman Dr. Spang
ler Klopp at the April 25 Ddm ar
va Poultry Booster Banquet in
Salisbury. Md.
Klopp told the nearly 2,000 DPI
supporters his job was made easy
due to the dedicated team of fund
drive volunteers, loyal members
who have supported DPI over the
years, and new members who re
cognize the important work done
by DPI,
The annual fund drive is DPl’s
means of raising money to support
its many services and programs.
DPl’s member ship consists of
nearly 4,000 individuals and com
panies, including poultry growers,
allied industry suppliers of pro
ducts and services, Delmarva’s se
ven poultry companies, poultry
company employees, and hund-

DPI Fund Drive Successful

The booster banquet was also
the occasion at which DPI pre
sented awards to Delmarva’s out
standing poultry growers and to
three individuals who have made
significant contributions to the
poultry industry.
The DPI Medal of Achieve
ment, awarded annually to a pub
lic servant of an agency or an or
ganization for outstanding
achievement and service on behalf
of the poultry industry, was pre
sented to Dr. Edward T. Mallin
son, extension poultry veterinar
ian, Virginia-Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine,
University of Maryland at College
Park. During his long and distin
guished career with the Pennsyl
vania Department of Agriculture
and the University of Maryland,
Mallinson has been the author of
countless articles, books, chapters
in books, and other university"
publications. He has spoken to
scores of audiences about poultry

health issues. He is one of the
leaders in the United States in
poultry disease prevention and
biosecurity programs.
Delmarva’s Distinguished Citi
zen Award, given in recognition
of a person’s work on behalf of
DPI, the poultry industry, and the
community, was presented to
Donald J. Lynch of Selbyville,
Del. Lynch, a long-time member
of the DPI board of directors,
served as DPI president in 1989.
He is a member of DPl’s Poultry
Health Committee and has been
an active fund drive volunteer. He
has been involved with Delmar
va’s poultry industry all his work
ing life and was the founder of a
local vaccine manufacturing com
pany. He is a former member of
the Delaware General Assembly,
Indian River Board of Education,
and the Fenwick Island town
council. He served as secretary of
the Delaware Department of Agri
culture in the 1980 s. Lynch is a
member of the University of Dela
ware board of trustees and the
Delaware State Chamber of Com
merce board of directors.

Special recognition was award
ed to the late Edgar M. Morris of
Parsonsburg, Md., a long-time
DPI director and grown’ commit
tee member. Morris was honored
for his leadership in representing
growers on the DPI board of direc
tors and DPI Grower Committee.
Other banquet honorees includ

their companies as outstanding
producers for 1995. They were
presented silver Revere bowls by
