May Baskets
You’ve probably heard of hanging May baskets on the

articulate’tHari the'fountain pen. Some signifying flow
ers included: apple blossoms for temptation; buttercups
for childishness and riches; chamomile for energy in
adversity; white daisies for innocence; purple lilacs for
early love; white lilacs for modesty; mountain ash for
:e; narcissus for self-esteem;
iw tulips for hopeless love;
it peas for respect; and blue vio
for faithfulness.
cr Oil of lavender, diluted with greater parts of water and
wiped on your tablecloth, will drive flies away.
Spring Soup
When the mew vegeta
bles begin to appear
in the marketplace,
make a delicate soup
broth of veal or chicken,
then add a handful of each
vegetable in the market,
Green peas, young
carrotj, a small turnip, a
few green beans, and
some pearl onions can
be cooked together
just until soft. Before
serving, sprinkle over

the top a sprig of parsley,
a bit of lettuce, and a stalk
or two of celery, all
chopped fine. The trick is
not to overcook the
vegetables, or overpower
—— the taste of
one with
another.
