joined forces for the first Mid-
Atlantic Crop Management
School.
Intended for persons who pro
vide crop management recom
mendations to farmers, the short
course is scheduled December 5-7
in the Calverton Holiday Inn near
Beltsville, Md.
The three-day event will offer
basic and specialized training in
crop production, nutrient manage
ment, pest management, and soil
and water conservation.
It is intended for agribusiness
representatives, certified crop
advisers, extension educators, far
mers, regulatory personnel, inte
grated pest management (IPM)
scouts and other persons involved
in making crop-related manage-

including pest identification,
sprayer technology, global posi
tioning, biotechnology, and fertili
ty decisionmaking.
The basic training will help pre
pare individuals for the regional
IPM and nutrient management
sections of the Mid-Atlantic Certi
fied Crop Adviser (CCA) exami
nation in 1996. Specialized train
ing will provide Continuing Edu
cation Units (CEUs) for nutrient
management consultants and per
sons who passed the 1995 CCA
exam in February.
University faculty members
and agribusiness representatives
from Pennsylvania, Maryland,
New Jersey, Delaware, West Vir
ginia and Virginia will comprise
the instructional staff for the
upcoming crop management

mately $125 will cover morning
and afternoon refreshment breaks,
plus lunch, for all three days of the
school. A group rate of $62 per
night, single or double, has been
arranged for overnight lodging.
Enrollment for the school will
be limited to 200 persons, and
registrations will be accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis,
according to Ronald L. Ritter,
weed control specialist for the
cooperative extension service,
University of Maryland at College
Park. Ritter is handling arrange
ments, along with Joanne M,
Whalen, extension pest manage
ment specialist for die University
