field, owner and operator of Drif
field's Farm Market in Sewell, was
recently honored by the New
Jersey Agricultural Society with
its 1995 Agricultural Marketing
Award at (he stale agricultural con
vention in Atlantic City.
Dufficld was recognized, along
with his wife Mary, by the Society
For Excellence in Marketing,
according to Ray Blew, president
of the society.
Presenting the award on behalf
of the society was Jerry Frccon,
agricultural agent with Rutgers
Cooperative Extension of
Gloucester County. Frccon not
only acknowledged David Duf
licld but also his wife Mary, sons
David and Dan (in charge of pro
duction and harvesting), daughter
Debbie Grclli, and daughters-in
law Tracy and Ruth Ann (manage
ment of the farm market, deli and
bake shop).
Said Frccon, “Dave started
farming on his own in 1953 and

after marrying Mary in 1960 began
selling produce off a small stand in
front of their house. This small
stand grew to a modest 36-fool by
40-fool open building and then
later to a fully enclosed air
conditioned market with cold stor
age, grading area, and dry storage.
As the market expanded, a bake
shop, full-line delicatessen and
kitchen have brought it to its cur
rent size.”
Frccon also said, “Outside the
market is a modem spacious park
ing lot, a large plastic house for
bedding plant sales, small wooden
gazebo for gift sales, a pelting zoo
with a variety of animals, a fenced
in picnic area, and a large shaded
area for festivals and fairs run both
dcpcndcnlly, or independently
with the Outfields’ business.
