Lester Daughter Tops 1995 Pennsylvania Spring Jersey Sale

Despite a couple of inches of
slushy snow and bone-chilling
temperatures, nearly 200 people
turned out for the Pennsylvania
Spring Jersey Sale and Pot-of-
Gold Sale held at Normandell
Farms last weekend.
A 2-ycar-old Highland Duncan
Lester daughter consigned by Les
ter and Ruth Martin of Chambers
burg topped the sale. Placing the
$1,500 top bid wen Jeff and
Michele Reasner of Shippensburg.
The second high seller went to
Richard Crawford of Port Royal
for $1,450. The animal, Lawman
Kupcake of Darlawn, was con
signed by Paul and Rebecca Dar
ling of Nicholson.
Normandell Kingsley Babe,
consigned by Normandell Farms,
was the third high seller. Bill
Spencer of Granville Summit pur
chased the 4-year-old for $1,275.
The high calf was purchased by
Amy Hixson of Scottsdale. She

Hollow Charlie Pansy, consigned
by Don and Jill Stonerook, took
the high position, as the August
calf was purchased by Nikki Hart-
Losch, of Mifflintown for $824.
A craft auction was also held
with the proceeds to benefit the
youth fund. Nearly $B5O was
raised through the sale of painted
sweatshirts, a small painted lap
desk, a cheesebox, ceramic cows,
pillows and hats, among other
items.
Although the weather forecast
was for rain and 50-degree weath
er, Mother Nature proved that you
can never quite predict the future.
“I think the weather affected tht
sale,” said David Norman, secret
ary of the Pennsylvania Associa
tion and co-host of the sale. “I had
a lot of potential buyers from Brad
ford County who didn’t come
over.”
Overall, the cows averaged
$952, calves averaged $4OO, and
the Fot-of-Gold animals averaged
$554.
