Dairy Council became involved in the
military effort by purchasing war bonds.
Robert McKinley, one of the key staff
members at the time, was called to duty
in the U.S. Marine Corps. The remaining
staff kept busy with the war cause.
In 1942 alone, 451 plants were sup
plied with nutrition posters —reaching

over 360,000 employees. One Dairy
Council staff person in 1943 spent almost
her entire time making new contacts and
maintaining old ones in defense plants.
The staff also furnished instructors for
cadet nurse classes in nutrition and food
preparation at the local Drexel Institute.
