In celebration of National
Ag Day, Pat Sueck, president
of the Penn’s Agri-Women,
presents a fruit and commod
ities basket to newly con
firmed state Secretary of
Agriculture Charles Broslus.
Gov. Tom Ridge, who was unable
to attend the Ag Day events due to
legislative activities.
The gift fruit baskets were
made and donated for the event by
Brown’s Orchaids Farm Market
of Loganville, York County.
Following his Ag Day com
ments, Secretary Brosius and
Penn’s Agri-Women President Pal
Sueck opened the buffet line to a
bounteous spread of Pennsyl
vania-produced food
commodities.
Participating with Agri-Women
in assembling the buffet were the
Pennsylvania Beef Council, Pen
nsylvania Department of Agricul
ture, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau
and the Commodity Round Table.
Two hours later, an estimated
1,000 legislators, staffers and
guests at the Capitol had partaken
of the buffet highlighting
Pennsylvania-produced foods.
Featured on the menu
were 70 pounds each of
ham and cheese, 30
pounds of bologna,,
another 2S of venison
bologna, with four
dozen loaves of
assorted breads for
sandwich-making.
Some 800 tortilla, beef,
spinach and tomato
“tailgate roll-ups"
added to the entree
selections.
Ag Day diners also
enjoyed 27 dozen red
beet eggs, six pounds of
fresh mushrooms, a
couple dozen jars of
marinated mushrooms,
and dipped numerous
trays of fresh vegetables
into five gallons of
dairy-based dips. Four
bushels of fresh apples
and a variety of cakes
and pastries rounded
out the buf
fet’s dessert offerings,
accompanied by five
hundred half-pints of
white and chocolate
milk.
National Agriculture
Day is celebrated annu
ally on the first day of
spring, as part of the
National Agriculture
Week salute to the
nation’s farming and
agri-business
industries.
