New Jersey, Holstein Association, is sponsoring a bus tour to dairy operations into Pen nsylvania’s Blair and Centre coun ties on March 31. There are two pickups locations. The bus is to leave the upper parking lot of the Wayne Dumont Jr. Administration Building promptly at 7:15 a.m. The admi nistration building is located along Rt. Sl9, one mile south of Belvidere. A visit is to be made at Courier Farms, in Mill Hall, owned by Paul Courier. It has a 4-year-old tie-stall bam and new heifer facilities. Courter milks 70 cows and has a 23,000 pound milk rolling herd average. His BAA is 103.1. The group is also to stop at Ulmer Farms, in Bellefonte. Own ed by Dan Ulmer, ithas a new heif er bam, a tie-stall bam, and he milks 75 cows with a 23,000 pounds milk RHA. The herd has a BAA of 105. Spring Lake Farm, in Tyrone, is a farm owned by Tom Kelly, who has worked as a classifier for Hols tein Association. He has a tie-stall bam with 85 cows and a 25,000 pounds milk RHA. He also raises his heifers in a free stall facility. The tour is to go to Altoona to visit Blackcrest Farms, owned by Robert and John Black. Also, 25 bulls bred and bom at farm are in use in artificial insemination studs. The partnership also was featured in the December 1993 issue of Hosltein World magazine. Also on the stop is a visit to the Evergreen Farms, in Spruce Creek, Huntingdon County, owned % Wayne Harpster. To knowledge, the farm is the largest facility in Pennsylvania and was designed to handle more than 1,400 cattle on three-times per day milking. Built in 1993, a set of two long, drive through freestall bams is con nected to a double-40 milking parlor.
