Through Balanced Fertility
NORCROSS, Ga.—Any time
is the right time to maximize
returns on investments in fertiliz
er. Changes in fertilizer prices
don’t change agronomic
facts...that, plants still require
adequate nutrients for optimum
yields and that optimum rates of
nutrient application are relatively
unaffected by prices.
High profit yields are the pro
duct of balanced prog
rams...matching high yield man
agement with high yield fertiliza
tion. You can’t put together a
system of best management prac
tices including the right hybrid or
variety selection, the right seeding
rate, the right row width, the right
planning date, and timeliness of
operations with a fertilizer prog
ram that supplies less than the
needed amounts of nutrients.
Adequate phosphorus is essen
tial in a best management practice
production system...even when
costs are higher. With adequate
phosphorus, nitrogen use efficien
cy increases, nitrogen carry-over
decreases, yields increase, grain
moisture is reduced, production
costs per unit decline and profits
rise...a fact even at higher pho
sphorus fertilizer costs.

sium...another key to efficient nit
rogen use and com profitability.

is a bargain...and an essential

Soybeans, like corn, require
adequate nutrients for top yields.
Soybean responses to higher soil
test levels and direct fertilization

ents from die soil. More nutrients
leave the farm when those higher
yields are sold. Maintaining pro
ductive capability requires

ents...particularly phosphorus and
potassium.
Fertilizer represents a relatively
small percentage of the total cost
of crop production. It takes a large
change in fertilizer rate to have
much impact on the total cost of
growing the crop.
Balance is the key. Provide the
nutrients the crops need. Know
your nutrient needs and meet them
for highest yields and profits.
