NEW HOLLAND (Lancaster Co.) Grassland FFA president Connie Zeiset told about 300 per sons attending the chapter’s 36th annual banquet held March 10 at Yoder’s Restaurant in New Hol land that FFA is like a banana split She compared the alumni to bananas because they laid the foundation for FFA, the parents who drive members to meetings and support the many activities are the ice cream, the guests are the varied toppings because of sharing various gifts to help the organiza tion, and other FFA chapters are likened to the whipped cream and cherry that offer color and sharing while enjoying the sweetness of this favorite dessert. Theresa Inhof, FFA vice presi dent for the state eastern tegipn, challenged members and guests to set goals, dream dreams, but to remember that it’s determination and steady dedication that will see them at the top of the success ladder. Awards and recognition went to both FFA members and supporters of the program. Star Grecnhand awards went to Wanda Fox, Sheldon Hoover, Junior Zeiset, and Amy Petrax. Star chapter awards were given to Ken Martin and Dan Laudermilch. Star Red Rose degrees were given to Jess Weaver and Jon Beaver. Star Keystone, the highest state level degrees, were earned by Linda Huber and Connie Zeiset. Shawn Eberly, a 1991 Garden Spot graduate, and known for his “I can do it” attitude was rec ognized for achieving the 1994 American FFA Degree and for being a Pennsylvania Star Farmer candidate. Jason Rcifsnyder, a former graduate of Gar den Spot and a sophomore at Penn Stale, was also recognized for achieving the 1994 American FFA degree. Other award recipients included FFA Founda tion scholarship awards to members who achieved a 3.75 during a marking period this past year. Achievement awards went to Linda Huber who was named the top salesperson for citrus fruit sales and to Jess Huber, who received a monetary award for his habitat project from D. Steven Martin of the Pennsylvania Game Com mission. Martin said that it was the second year that the Grassland Chapter had submitted more wild life record books to the contest than any other chapter. Certificates of appreciation were given to the following for helping the Grassland Chapter in many different ways; Fred Brown, PVATA legi slative lobbyist; Jeff Riddle, student teacher; Elsie Carraway, poultry team resource person; Ron Ramus, Tyson Foods; Charles Kessler, county FFA advisor; Ernie On, ag teacher, Andy Roy, plumbing consultants; Harvey Buzzard, maintenance department; Mk and Mrs. William Shirk, cooperators aquaculture project; Mussleman’s Lumber, greenhouse project supporter; Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Esbenshade, officer retreat cabin hosts; Erika Neidermyer, receptionist and mailroom; Sandra Lane, program committee; and Dan Falvey, math teacher. Honorary Chapter Degrees were given to the following persons: Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Huber, parents of four Keystone degree winners; Jeff Stoltzfus, adult farmer instruc tor; Lou Ann Good, Lancaster Farming writer; Nevin Greiner, resource conservationist; Jan Burke, media librarian; Steve Kline, West Snyder FFA advisor, DeElma Kline, bookkeeper; Cynthia Shaffer, West Snyder FFA advisor; and Mr. and Mrs. David Kunkle, parents of FFA chapter president Connie Zeiset.
