According to Dr. Janice E.
McClure, Penn State expert sys
tems coordinator, the Consultant is
available for any grower to use
with a Mac computer (1 megabyte
of RAM and a hard disk drive
required) or an MS-DOS system (1
megabyte of RAM and a VGA
monitor required). She demon
strated the latest version of the
software, Ver. 6.0 (1995), at the.
Workshop. The cost of die soft
ware is about $400.'
The system, developed about
seven years ago, allows growers to
incorporate a wide variety of infor
mation on the pest or disease prob
lem. The important thing to
remember about the diagnostic
tool is that much information is
needed, including weather, varie
ty. plot layout, and other factors, to
make an accurate diagnosis! "
