“Beware the Ides of March”
The Ides of March was certainly calamitous for Julius
Caesar, who was assassinated on March 15, 44 uc
and the concept ot unlucky days has survived into
modern times Ancient Romans regaided the ides (the
13th or 15th depending on the month) as ill-fated, as
well as the calends (first ot the month) and the nones
(nine days before the ides) In the 1816 Old Fanner's
Almanai we find these days transformed
into old women whose breath is poisonous.
“To whatsoever was true, honest .or of
good report, their hreath was as blasting
and mildew These monsters are now' no
more; hut they so leavened the world
with their abominable practices that their
influence will never be eradicated "
Do not he hom good or
handsome, hut he hom lucky.
Bread will stay fresh longer if you keep a piece of celery
