Ember Days
Every season has its Ember Days for predicting the
weather According to folklore, the weather on
each of the three Ember Days foretells the weather
for three successive months. Originally set aside by the
church for fasting and prayer, the Ember Days are the
Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following the first
Sunday in Lent. Whit Sunday (or Pentecost), the third
Sunday in September, and the third Sunday in Advent.
With Lent beginning on March 1, this season’s Ember
Days are March 8, 10, and 11. If the tradition is
upheld, the weather on March 8 will forecast the over
all weather for April, while the 10th and 11th will pre
diet for May and June.
