don’t think there’s
anything today that a
farmer can do that will be
more productive for his
operation than plant a corn HHul^HEl—9l
hybrid that is highly digestible. The more forage
the cow can utilize the less a dairy producer has to
purchase off the farm and the more profitable his
operation will be.
If we have a corn plant with improved digestibility
we can get more fiber into the cow and at the same
time keep a healthier cow, maintain production
and also put together a less expensive ration..
As a feed consultant, a ration with digestible corn
silage makes my job much easier because I know
we won’t run into some of the problems that we
would have with less digestible hybrids. I’ve also
noticed that higher quality forage will have a
tremendous impact on the herd health of cows.
The Cargill Menu helps provide consistency and
stability in rations. Cows simply eat more with
good-quality forages and that’s why they move up
in production.
RICK CRAIG

(feed and seed sales)
As a business person, you
must use all the tools at
your disposal. This has to
be something that dairy
producers look at. I believe
you have to start with a
quality product to get
maximum milk production.

NEW FORAGE QUALITY HYBRIDS
3408 FQ - 96 Day
Med tall hybrid with higher fiber digestibility and whole
plant digestibility than 2927 with a higher grain content.
Above average NDF content but high fiber digestibility. Top
choice for dairy. Excellent dual purpose hybrid.
3309 FQ - 100 Day
Tall plant with top tonnage with low fiber values and
exceptional fiber digestibility. Soft kernel texture with high
energy content. Top choice for both beef or dairy rations.
6208 FQ 110 Day
Tall plant with above average tonnage potential.
Moderate to low fiber values with high whole plant digest
ibility make for a higher energy density hybrid. Dual pur
pose potential but is intended to be chopped. Excellent for
beef & dairy.
7301 FQ - 115 Day
Med Tall Plant with top tonnage potential. High stay
green but soft kernel texture. Low fiber values (ADF &
NDF) and above average nonfiber carbohydrates (% grain)
high whole plant digestibility. Not recommended as dual
purpose. Chop for beef or dairy.
