Future Harvest Festival Set WESTMINSTER, Md. The Maryland Organic Food and Fanning Association, Inc. (MOF FA) in conjunction with the Mary land Cooperative Extension Ser vice is pleased to announce the Future Harvest Festival to be held on Saturday and Sunday. October 14 and IS, here at the Carroll County Agricultural Center. The Festival, modeled after county fairs of yesteryear, will blend family-oriented activities, agriculture exhibits, and farm and homeowner demonstrations. Workshops will be held through out the festival for homeowners, gardeners, and farmers. Farmer-to-farmer workshops will focus on sustainable agricul tural practices and techniques. Homeowner workshops will ad dress organic lawn care, low-im pact household cleaning products, composting, and pest-control with low-impact products. A demonstration kitchen will operate throughout the festival, featuring healthier food preparation and food preser vation techniques. Other demon strations will include working draft horses, a quilting “bee.” Shiitake mushroom culture, bask et making, beekeeping, and more. Food vendors will offer organi cally produced fare and a farmers’ market will feature a wide range of regionally grown produce. Ac tivities for children, and the young at heart include pumpkin painting, scarecrow building, storytelling, a “chicken scratch,” a petting zoo, and more. MOFFA is producing the festi val as part of the Future Harvest Project with funding from "the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
