The Rocking Horse Ridge
Farm near Carlisle is a busy place
these days.
Pat and Doreen Coibosiero, the
owners of the farm, have plenty to
do boarding horses and teaching
riding classes that they say are
becoming more popular every
year.
“There seems to be a real grow
ing interest in horses and riding,
maybe because of the popularity
of dude ranches, western music
and western style,” Doreen said.
“People have seemed to get caught
up in it.”
The Corbosieros said they
became involved with the farm
more or less by chance in 1993.
The couple, who are from New
Jersey, said they just happened to
run across the farm during a trip to
this area one weekend.
Her brother is responsible for
them buying the place, Doreen
joked.
He is a real estate agent in Har
risburg, she said, and while they
were visiting, he said he had a
place to show them. He did and the
rest is history, Doreen said.
Running the farm most certain
ly is a full-time business, the Cor
bosieros said.
The couple boards approxi
mately 40 horses on a regular basis
in addition to giving lessons in
several different forms of riding.
Between 50 and 90 riding
lessons sre given by outside
instructors at the 30-acre farm
each week, from basic classes to

Three instructors teach basic
riding techniques and one instructs
advanced classes to teach children
how to perfect their riding skills.
The two Western riding classes
cover everything from basic tech
niques to barrel racing and special
Western events.
English riding classes are
among their most popular offer
ings, the Corbosieros said. “There
has always been a certain amount
of interest in English riding,”
Doreen said.
The Corbosieros really know -
what they are doing, too, since
Doreen has worked with horses all
her life. She graduated from col
lege with a degree in animal sci
ences.
As one would expect, the sum
mer is the busiest time at the farm.
That is when the farm sponsors
weekly day camps for children 8
to 15 years old who are interested
in learning Western and English
riding.
This year, The Corbosieros said
they will start a five-week basic
program for beginning .riders.
They said that program will cover
basic horse care, grooming and
saddling. It will be followed by a
free riding lesson.
Rocking Horse Ridge has'
impressive facilities to back up all
of its activities.
The place has a show ring, a
lighted outdoor arena, a lighted
indoor arena and a whole network
of wooded riding trails. The Cor
bosieros also offer trailering ser
vices.
The couple holds shows at the
farm and are in the Blue and Gray
Show Circuit, which involves

and Maryland. They are involved
in the Cumberland County 4-H
and Pony Club activities as well.
