Maryland Holstein Convention
Carroll County

The Comfort Inn is located at the
instection of routes 31 and 140, on
the west side of Westminster.
Registration begins 9 a.m.
March 3 at the Inn, with a dairy bar
and exhibits opening at the same
time.
The annual business meeting
starts promptly at 10 a.m., and
includes the presentation of breed
improvement awards and progres
sive breeder awards.
Following lunch at 12:30 p.m.,
the guest speaker is to be Richard
“Dick” Chichester, who was the
recipicent of the Dairy Shrine’s
most coveted “guest of honor”
award. He received the award Oct.
S, 1994 during the Dairy Shrine
annual meeting and banquet at
Madison, Wis.
His comments are to reflect the
convention theme, “Forged by our
history, united in our future.”
The banquet is to be
held at Wilhelm’s Ltd.
Caterers, loacted along
Rt. 104, across from the
Maryland State Police
banacks.
The social hour starts
at 6 p.m., the buffet din
ner at 7 p.m., with fried
chicken, shrimp, and
roast beef.
At 8:30 p.m. is to be
the presentation of
junior awards, the intro
duction of the judging
teams, and a small fun
auction.
From 9:30 p.m. to
11:30 p.m. is to be
entertainment
There are also to be a
ladies’ program and a
youth program with the
convention.
The ladies' program
includes a luncheon and
tour of Antrim 1844,
although tour particip
ants need to arrange
their own transporta
tion. The Antrim 1844 is
a fully restored country
inn, located in Taney
town and hors d’oeuvies
are to be served on the
first floor of the man
sion, while vintage clo
thing and special heir
looms from Carroll
County families are to
be displayed.
A gourmet lunch is to
follow, along with a tour
of the mansion and
grounds. The Antrim
1844 tour and luncheon
has been scheduled to
occur from 11 a.m. to 2
p.m.
A shopping trip to
various shops in nearby
Littlestown, Pennsylva
nia, from 2 p.m. on
follows.

For the youth, their program is
to be held in the agriculture center
in Westminster, and is to run from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ending with dairy
bowl competitions to select a team
to represent the state at the national
Holstein convention, set to be held
in Pittsburgh June 25-28.
At 10 a.m., the Maryland Junior
Holstein Club is to hold its annual
business meeting and elect offic
ers. Following a pizza lunch, mem
bers are to travel to Piney Run Park
for indoor and outdoor activities,
including a scavenger hunt.
At 2:30 p.m., the members
return to the ag center for the dairy

istrator Rex F. 'Lothrop has an
nounced a Class I milk price of
$14.41 per hundredweight for
February 1995.
This price is down 48 cents
from January and is $1.13 below
last February’s Class I price.
Mr. Lothrop announced a Class
IB milk price of $11.46 per hund
redweight for December 1994 and
a Class ffl-A price of $10.25 per
hundredweight for the month. The
Class 111 price was down 48 cents
from the previous month, while
the Class HI-A price decreased 23
cents.

and the December 1994 Class 111
price are based on the December
1994 Minnesota-Wisconsin
manufacturing milk price of
$11.38 per hundredweight at a 3.S
percent butterfat content.
The December 1994 butterfat
pice was 67.43 cents per pound,
down 6.27 cents from November.
The December skim milk price
per hundredweight was $9.43.
The USDA reported that the
wholesale price of Grade A butter
at Chicago for December was
65.52 cents per pound on the mer
cantile exchange and the Central
Stales nonfat dry milk price was
$1.0686 per pound.
