Northeast Dairy Leaders Praise SYRACUSE. N.Y. The U.S. dairy industry will benefit from enhanced export incentives for the first half of 1995, two Northeast dairy leaders said recently. Lewis Gardner, president of Eastern Milk Producers Coopera tive, and Robert Gray, executive director of the Council of North east Farmer Cooperatives, hailed action by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide “bonus awards” to U.S. expraters of milk powder, butterfat, and cheese. ‘This will allow U.S. dairy pro ducts to be sold at competitive world market prices to more coun tries than ever before,” Gardner said. “We’ve been fighting for this kind of incentive for months which would help provide a more fair international playing field.” KUBOTA’S POWER LINE-UP From our 10 HP lawn and garden tractor to our 91 PTO HP Turbo charged farm tractors, Kubota has . the right tractor to handle all your needs. Rominger said he was allowing “the timely use of the DEIP” in previously untargeted countries. ‘This should help theU.S. dairy industry to seek the export market opportunities that will become available as the (GATT’s) Uru guay Round agreement goes into effect,” Rominger said. ‘These * N „ See Your Local Kubota Dealer Jersey Shore THOMAS L. These allocations will be valid until June 30. USDA will announce new DEIP allocations to take effect after June 30, Romin ger said, because July 1 is the date that U.S. commitments to reduce export subsides take effect under the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Export subsidies, such as those the U.S. uses to support DEIP sales, will be reduced by all coun tries signing onto GATT, said Gray, whose Council of Northeast Fanner Cooperatives includes the Massachusetts-based AgriMark, the Vermont-based St. Albans, and the New York-based Eastern and Upstate Milk cooperatives. MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS 609-267-6100 DELAWARE Gray also said that any GATT country with an internal support mechanism or 'subsidies will be required to establish a ceiling for these subsidies. “However,” he said, “because of past reductions in the federal farm commodity programs, including the support price program for milk, the U.S is not required to make any internal support reductions as part of the GATT agreement” NEED YOUR ■ FARM BUILDINGS PAINTED?
