It takes a sense of humor to
spend one day a week, every
week, managing a small animal
auction no matter what the weath
er. The warm December tempera
tures brought out a good number
of both buyers and sellers to the
Belleville Poultry Auction, man
aged by Rob and D.J. Seitz of
Lcwistown.
But the Seitz’ sense of humor
was still intact even when January
started the new year with a cold
nesday at 1 p.m.
bite. The 1:00 Wednesday auction
produced a slim crowd, but dealers
from Lebanon, McClure, and
Altoona helped keep the bidding
as brisk as the weather.
Auctioneer Jack Weaver from
Saxton, Bedford County saw the
line of rabbits ducks, chickens,
and pigeons sold and shipped out
by 2:00.
“We average 2-300 head each
week,” said D.J. Seitz. “Spring is
our biggest time.”
D.J. and her husband Rob
began managing the Belleville
Poultry Auction in November of
1994. They are livestock dealers
who also own the Sunnybrook
Rabbitry near Lewistown.
“I’ve been working with poul
try for eight years,” D.J. said. “We
have our dealer’s license and
licenses to haul livestock. We’re
inspected here every week.”
Rob said he hopes to increase
business and wants to treat people
fair. “Appearance is a key thing,”
