MT. JOY (Lancaster Co.) A
quorum of the 158-member ML
Joy Farmers Cooperative
approved several changes to its
bylaws, elected officers and heard
favorable business reports Wed
nesday during its annual banquet
meeting at Country Table Restabr
ant in Ml Joy.
According to Donald Risser,
chairman of the board, who was re
elected to the board during the
meeting, 1994 was a year of unpre
cedented growth for the coopera
tive, which saw 38 cooperators
added to its ranks.
Risser said that fewer than half
of those new members were asso
ciated with Hershey Foods Corp.’s
recent elimination of independent
producers supplying milk and con
tracting directly with Atlantic
Dairy Cooperative for supplies.
The majority of framer Hershey
producers joined ADC.
The Mt. Joy Farmers Coopera
tive is part of a federated market
ing group that includes two addi
tional producer cooperatives of
similar size. Their milk is mark
eted through Dairy Processing Inp.
The One Spreader
Big Enough For Poultry litter,
Rugged Enough For lime.
The
Stol
Poultry Litter
Spreader is specifically designed for the
demands of this challenging job. The 20
foot hopper holds a whopping 400 cubic
foot load, meaning fewer trips for you.
The big 30-inch drag chain moves large
volumes of litter fast. And the dual
hydraulic spinners spread a wide,
uniform pattern up to 40 feet wide.
But its real beauty may be its versatility.
Now you can spread fertilizer, stockpiled
lime, compost, poultry litter and more, all
with one machine.
• Hydraulic spinners
• PTO-powered chain
• Spread stockpiled lime
• Walking beam suspension
• 4 sizes to choose from
• Truck-mounted models available STOLTZFUS
Mt. Joy Farmers Cooperative Grows Many Ways
(DPI), which has an agreement
with Atlantic Dairy Cooperative to
supply milk at certain plants in
such a manner as to ensure that raw
milk customers get the supplies
they need as quickly as possible,
with the least amount of cost to all
involved.
According to Royce Seifert,
API representative. “We continue
to enjoy a fine relationship
between Ml. Joy and API.”
Seifert said that while the major
ity of Ml Joy milk goes to two
processors Beatrice Cheese
and John Labatts of Canada
because of the arrangement with
ADC, some of the milk goes to
other processors as well.
The Labatts operation owns
Johanna Farms (in addition to a
number of other businesses and
part of a major league baseball
team), which operates in Lansdale,
having closed its Flemington, N.J.
headquarters. Johanna had bottled
several different brands of milk,
but now markets it all under the
label. “Lehigh Valley Dairies.”
Mt. Joy milk goes to Lansdale, toa
Mt. Washington facility, and to
Beatrice, in Allentown.
The contract with Labatts ends
Morgan Way, P.O. Box 527, Morgantown, PA 19543
early in 1996, and discussions for a
contract renewal have begun,
while the contract with Beatrice
extends until 1999.
“top-of-the-line”
ag spreaders, many Stoltzfus Spreaders
are still in use after 20 years. That makes
a Stoltzfus Spreader preferred not only
for quality and performance, but also for
terrific economy in the long run.
Sure you can settle for buying on initial
price alone. But with a Stoltzfus
Spreader you won’t be shopping for
another spreader just a couple years
down the line.

Seifert said that currently Mt.
Joy and API have "... truly been
blessed with an abundance that
translates into ... prosperity.”
Referring to Deuteronomy VIII,
he said that members should
remember that prosperity is ulti

they should keep that in mind
