honored as a grand award District
in the 47th annual Conservation
Awards Program sponsored by
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Company and National Associa
tion of Conservation Districts.
(NACD).
Stauffer represented the district
during a work/study program for
award winners Dec. 1-4 at the
Camelback Inn Resort here.
Since 1947, the Goodyear/
NACD Conservation Awards Pro
gram has encouraged and reward
ed local efforts to protect and con
serve soil, water, forests, wildlife
and other natural resources. Win
ning districts are selected on the
basis of their success in develop
ing and implementing an annual
plan for delivering district pro
grams and services.

as grand award winners based on
their achievements during 1993.
Nearly 3,000 soil and water con
servation districts nationwide were
eligible for the award.
In addition to observing con
servation and agricultural prac
tices in the Scottsdale area, Stauf
fer and participants in the work/
study trip had an opportunity to
discuss major conservation issues
and policies with Jerry Digemess,
president of NACD.
