197 FFA’ers To Receive Keystone Degree At Farm Show

Area FFA. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lind
say Si dinger, Shawn has raised com,
worked at the Carl Faus dairy farm, and for
the Lykens Township for his FFA projects.
The recipient of a first place in the county
award for creed speaking, a bronze medal
in the state record book contest, and first in
the county for conservation public speak
ing and in the small gas engine contest,
Shawn has served on his chapter’s fruit
sale. Farm Show, farm toy show and FFA
banquet committees. Shawn also has
earned a star greenhand, chapter and area
farmer degrees. He said he intends to seek
a career as a small gas engine mechanic.

for two of his four
years as a member.
He has a dairy cow
project and his on
farm work experience is done at his family
farm. He also serves on the earnings, sav
ings, and investment committee, the recre
ation committee and the SAE committee.
He said he intends to work on the family
farm and pursue further education.

the Central Cove
FFA chapter, where
he’s been a member
for the past four
years. He is a
member of the
county dairy judging team and was a reci
pient of the 1994 swine scholarship award,
in addition to showing a grand champion
and showing catde to various placings at a
number of shows. His projects include
beef and swine finishing, and poultry and
dairy production, and he has been involved
with the chapter’s Food For America and
Adopt-A-Highway projects. A member of
the executive committee and chairman ol
its scholarship committee, Slock has parti
cipated in the Blair County junior livestock
show, the Morrison Cove dairy show, the
state Farm Show, and other livestock and
dairy shows and sales. He said he would
like to work on his family farm.

five years and was
a 1993 swine
scholarship award
recipient. Thomas’s projects involve
swine finishing and breeding, beef and
lamb finishing, raising capons and turkeys,
and doing on-farm work experience. He
has participated in the Penn State spring
livestock judging contest, the Blair County
junior livestock show and «ale, the county

FFA hog show and sale, and numerous
other local and state shows. He has also
been involved in Food For America and
Adopt-A-Highway projects. He showed a
grand champion lamb at the county show
and sale and would like to become a part
ner in the family’s butcher shop and meat
market.

A three-year member of the Central Cove
FFA chapter, he was a winner of various
county and area SAE project awards, and
he was a gold medal winner in the state
FFA activities week dairy judging contest,
as well as in the spring dairy judging con
test. He won a first place in the area
cooperative council competition, and
attended the Pennsylvania Cooperative
Council Conference in Shippensburg two
years. Also involved in the Food For
America and Adopt-A-Highway projects,
he has achieved the level of Eagle Scout in
his participation in the Boy Scouts of
America. Dwight said he intends to pursue
a college degree in an agriculturally related
field.

chapter for four
years and his pro-
jects include finish
ing beef, raising
capons and working on-farm. Thomas has
participated in the Morrison Cover dairy
show and the local district FFA dairy
show, and serves on the chapter’s Scholar
ship and Executive committees. He is also
involved with the Food For America and
Adopt-A-Highway projects and has been
studying hydroponics through an agrisci
ence project. A 1993-94 scholastic award
runnerup, he has won various county and
area SAE project awards and is a member
of his high school’s science club and the
National Honor Society. He said he is set
to attend Penn State University this fall to
begin studies in electro-mechanical
engineering.

including its volleyball, bulb sales, citrus
sales, BOAC, and county fair committees.
The four-year member said she intends to
seek a career in agriculture, most likely in
dairy farming.
Ben Shipley

Meyersdale, has
been a four-year
member of the
Meyersdale Area
FFA chapter and is
currently its presi
dent. Ben received
star grecnhand and
chapter degrees,
and also was a
scholarship award
winner for three years. He has participated
in dairy judging and has attended a number
of leadership conferences. He serves on his
chapter’s calendar, citrus sales, parent and
member banquet, fair activities, apple cid
er, sports activities, public speaking, judg
ing skills, and scholarship committees.
Ben has also participated in the Building
Our American Communities projects and
he has attended and exhibited in the county
fair. He said he intends to continue his edu
cation in agriculture at a two-year school.
