    Outstanding Shorthorn Performance Recognized
LOUISVILLE. Ky. Shor
thorn producers were recognized
and honored by the American
Shorthorn Association for out
standing performance during the
past year.
The awards were presented at
the breed’s annual meeting and
award ceremony held in conjunc
tion with the National Shorthorn
Show at the North American
International Livestock Exposi
tion in Louisville, Ky.
Thirteen Shorthorn operations
were named as recipients of the
Century Club Award. A plaque
was presented to any firm having
registered 100 or more head of
Shorthorns during the previous
fiscal year.

The Sire of the Year Award
honors the top five sires in the
breed determined by points accu
mulated by the show ring perfor- '
mance of their progeny. The

elected to the national board of
directors in November.
Jane Evans Cornelius, LaSalle,
Colo.; Jim O’Mara, Jackson,
Miss.; and Donato Ramos, Lare
do, Texas, assumed their Board
duties during the 72nd National
Convention, Show & Sale in
Kansas City, Mo.
Cornelius was elected to repre
sent the states of Colorado, New
Mexico, and Wyoming. The
owner of Coyote Ridge Ranch, she
and her children have been in the
Polled Hereford business for IS
years. The ranch’s TOO cows and
700 acres started as a 4-H project.
Her son, Hampton, and his wife,
Kay, now help manage the opera
tion and Cornelius’s other chil
dren, Coleman and Katie, are also
involved.

(PHA) and served as its secretary
from 1987 to 1992. The Colorado
Cattlemen’s Association, Larimer

benefited from her leadership.
APHA members in Arkansas,
Louisiana and Mississippi will be
represented by O’Mara during the
next four years. O’Mara, who
owns Broadlawn Farms, began in
the registered Polled Hereford
business in 1982. Since then, his
operation has grown to 100
females on 425 acres. He has
served on the Mississippi PHA
Board of Directors and as its sec
retary, was his state’ $ delegate to
APHA’s Strategic Planning Con
ference in 1990 is a Mississippi
Cattlemen’s Association member
