Agriculture Secretary
Boyd Wolff has recently
commended Jim Garra
han, supervisor of the
department’s Bureau of
Plant Industry, for
receiving honors Grom
the federal Environmen
tal Protection Agency.
According to a news
release, Wolff com
mended Garrahan for
being named the Pesti
cide Inspector of the
Year by the EPA Region
m office. Garrahan was
presented with the EPA
award during a recent
state pesticide inspector
woritshop.
The award is pre
sented by the EPA to the
person who best exem
plifies an “outstanding
inspector,” based on
exceptional dedication,
performance of duties in
a consistently profes
sional manner, comple
tion of inspections with
proper documentation,
seeking innovative
approaches to problems
and functioning as an
educator to die regu
lated community and
the public, according to
the news release.
Garrahan, 67, of
Kingston, has been
employed by the Pa.
Department of Agricul
ture for 18 years, and for
the past two years has
worked as supervisor of
the PDA’s Region 111
office in Tunkhannock.
He and his wife Bar
bara have two daughters
and five grandchildren.
“Proper training is the
key to successful
inspections,” Garrahan
said in the news release.
“In field work, I would
like to be thought of as
being tough, but fair.”
“It’s a great honor for
Jim, and for the Depart
ment,” said Wolff, in the
statement “(Garrahan)
was selected from a
number of nominees
from Pennsylvania and
several other states,
including West Virgini
a, Maryland, Virginia,
Delaware, and the Dis
trict of Columbia.”
