The Penn State Dairymen’s club also finances trips for the Penn State Dairy Judging Teams through its endowment fund. The club added to the fund this year with proceeds from the sale of donated craft items sold at the Pennsylvania All-American Dairy Show. Reporting on this year’s judging contests. Penn State judging team coach Dale Oliver said the Eastern States Expo team, including Owen Bowley of West, Chester, Jeff Hostetler of Annville, Brenda Mihaliak of Wellington, CT, and Shannon Peterman of Muncy, was second high team overall and first in Guernseys. Brenda finished sec ond high overall and Owen was first in Guernseys and Milking Shorthorns. At the National Intercollegiate Judging Contest in Madison, WI, the team of Bewley, Hostetler, Mihaliak and Cathy Pavelski of Susquehanna placed fifth overall out of 25 teams and was in the top 10 in five of six breeds. Brenda and Cathy made the top 25 indi vidual All-American list. Jayne Hess of Gettysburg joined Bewley, Hostetler and Pavelski to compete at the all- American, where they placed ninth overall, with Cathy as the tenth high individual. A team including Lisa Olver of Hones dale, Kristie Kolosky of Belle Vernon. Hess, and Peterman went to the North American Dairy Expo in Louisville, where they placed ninth overall, third in Guernseys and eighth in reasons, Jayne was second in Jerseys, sev enth in reasons and tenth overall individual, while Lisa was sixth and Kristy eighth in Holsteins. Poage Grant-In-Aid Award Melissa Morrow of Tyrone and Joshua Havatine of Thompson received the 1994 Poage Grant-In- Aid award for their excellence in youth dairy judging and their high academic standings. Melissa was the high 4-H individual at the 1991 Pennsylvania All-American contest, leading her team to a first place finish. Josh was the high individual and first in reasons at the 1993 North American contest. The award was established by Warren Poage, a retired Penn State dairy judging coach, and is admin istered by the Dairymen’s club.
