IBP Challenges
To Assist NPPC
In Promoting Pork
DES MOINES, lowa In
response to an appeal by the
National Pork Producers Council
(NPPC) to the nation’s packers,
IBP, Inc., issued a challenge to the
rest of the industry in a effort to
promote increased pork
consumption.
The Dakota City, Neb. based
company has agreed to contribute
$50,000 to the National Pork Pro
ducers Council, if all other sectors
of the industry provide an addi
tional $lOO,OOO. The money would
be used to support the current
promotional efforts of NPPC to
keep pork moving through the
food chain during this period of
large supplies.
“We believe it’s time to step up

Leman, IBP executive vice presi
dent, said. “We are moving as
many hogs through our plants as
possible in order to provide market
stability. We believe additional
product promotion is also needed.”

President Glen Keppy, a pork pro
ducer for Davenport, lowa, said.
“We will be encouraging others in
the business to respond to this
challenge to help move more high
quality pork through the food
chain to the consumer.”
