__ Sadie Hawkins Day, November 12
On with the Chase!
Sadie Hawkins Day, celebrated on Saturday, November 12,
this year, is not a typical holiday It’s the invention of A 1
Capp, creator of the Li’l Abner cartoon strip. Capp con
ceived of a day in Dogpatch, USA, when all die unmarried
ladies could pursue (literally) their man. If caught, the hap
less bachelor was soon trudging down the aisle. Needless to
say, pandemonium erupted in Dogpatch. Interestingly, this
fictional world so captured people’s imaginations that Sadie
Hawkins Day passed into the realm of modern
folklore The first Sadie Hawkins Day was
November 9, 1938, but today it’s celebrated
on a Saturday to accommodate the “girls
ask-boys” school dances
he way to fight a woman is with your
hat. Grah it and run. John Barrymore
