Md. Montadale Jackpot Held
TIMONIUM, Md. Nearly
$l,OOO in cash and prizes were up
for grabs in the third annual Mary
land Montadale Jackpot held at the
Maryland 4-H and FFA Market
Lamb Show during Maryland
State Fair.
The judge for this year’s show
was Jeff Neal of Sycamore, Ohio.
Neal made several comments
about the leanness and heavy
muscling of many of the lambs as
well as the tremendous parity
within the classes.
Topping the lightweight divi
sion was a 91-pound lamb exhibit
ed by Kate Brewer of Phoenix,
Md. This was her second year
showing in the Montadale Jackpot.
Last year she had the reserve
champion lamb.
In the middleweight division, a
103-pound lamb exhibited by
Chris Gazunis gathered the top
spot. This year marked Chris’s
first trip to state fair.
First place in the heavyweight
division went to John Norris of
Woodbine, Md. This was also the
second year he has participated in
this show.
It was the middle weight lamb
exhibited by Chris Gazunis of
Montgomery County, Md. that
walked away with grand champi
onship honors as well as the $250
jackpot. Reserve grand champion
and $l5O went to the top placing
heavyweight lamb shown by John
Norris of Carroll County, Md. The
champion lamb also proved to be
one of the top-selling lambs in
state 4-H & FFA livestock sale,
bringing $3.00/pound. Both cham
pions were also awarded trophy
blankets and directors chairs.
