Member involvement with a local program for children in abusive family sit uations won outstanding recogni tion for the Thomasville Com munity Club during the York County 4-H Achievement Awards program. The annual recognition ceremony was held October 6 at the 4-H Center. As part of the 4-H Club’s com munity service and outreach, the two dozen members of the Thomasville group provide pro grams and sharing activities at the Lehman Center of York. The Lehman Center offers counseling for abusive and potentially abu sive family situations. For the past five years, club members have spent at least two evenings annually with children ranging in age from infants through early teens, whose parents are participat ing in Lehman Center counseling. Thomasville Community 4-H Club was named the 1994 York County outstanding club. Each received a $5O savings bond and trophy of recognition. Senior outstanding 4-H mem bers were Cindy Dehoff and Denise Lauer. Outstanding junior girl and boy were Beth Baer and Lucas Kraft. Named outstanding rookies were Kelly Jo Bankert and Matthew Luckenbaugh. Special recognition also went to outstanding officers of county 4-H clubs. Beth Baer, Glen Rock Community Club, was honored as outstanding historian and Joy Butter, Wellsville Boots and Saddles Club, the outstanding sec retary. Outstanding news reporter award went to Heather Bankert, Winterstown Community Club, and Kristina Gable, Thomasville Community Club, was named the outstanding treasurer. Eleven senior 4-H members were named project award win ners. In the Beef project, Jason Baer was the winner, and Amy Trowbridge, runnerup. Clothing and Textiles award went to Tammy Dise, with Amy Disc the runnerup. Kelly Beard and Chris Bosley were the winner and run nerup in leisure education. Also, Denise Lauer, food preservation; Sabrina Asper, horse; Elizabeth Kann, photography; Lillian Eddinger, rabbit; and Cindy Dehoff, recreation. In the junior division, 4-H pro ject awards were for achievement, Ben Leese; aquatic science, Melissa Stough; capon, Jessica Klock, and Kelly Jo Banked, run nerup; child development, Abbie Lease and Heather Banked, run nerup; clothing and textiles, Emily Banked, and runnersup Megan Banked and Breanna Brown; foods and nutrition, Mandy Brown and runnerup Brandy Banked; goat, Andrea Craun; horse, Danielle Howell and runnerup Greg Daugherty; leisure education, Gabrielle Dissinger and Jeremy Myers, run nerup; market lambs, Paul Kitzmiller and runnerup, Lindsay Jones; and pet care, Beth Baer and runnerup. Shive’s leadership activities include the county Beef Club and serving on the 4-H Center board of directors. Recognized for 15 years of ser vice were Maryanne Brenneman, Stoverstown club; Pearl Kneller, Jefferson; Richard Rishel, Glen Rock; Anna Shermeyer, Davidsburg and the 4-H Center board; Kathleen Church, shooting spots, and Dale Myers, beef.
