The contest dealt with a variety of forestry knowledge - identifica tion of trees, identification of insects and diseases, identification of tools used in forestry. Students also took a written test on general knowledge of forestry and a forest business management problem. The Twin Valley team which represented Pennsylvania consist ed of Tara Plewa, Larry Medaglia, and Melissa Makris. The team placed 3rd out of teams represent ing 14 northeastern states. Two members placed in the top 10 in individual competition. Tara placed sth and Larry Bth. Students traveled to the Big E as part of the Pennsylvania dele gation. They also spent time at the Big E, a huge state fair for the new England states, learning about the cultural diversities in each New England State. These included his public rela tions tour, peach commodity festi val, press releases, signage, televi sion programming, columns in the New Jersey Farmer and Horticul tural News, newsletters and num erous speaking engagements to promote agriculture and the role of Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
