William Kelly, county exten sion director served as auctioneer of 272 market animals offered for sale by the youth. Justin Fuls, of Rector sold his 1,250-pound grand champion market steer to Hoss’s Steak and Sea House for $3.75 per pound, while Katie Logan, of Irwin sold her 1,160-pound reserve grand champion steer for $3.25 per pound. While the buyers and prices paid for the other livestock were not available Brennen and Kristina Bierbower, of Latrobe captured several of the top trophies with the entries. In other news, Joanne Logan, extension agent, said she saw the fair and the auction as the culmina tion of a year of work for the youth. She said that Westmoreland County’s 4-H program is perhaps unique in that only one out of 10 of the 3,000 youth participating in the program actually live on farms.
