READING (Berks Co.) An
exhibitor who showed grand
champion fitting swine also picked
up the trophy for supreme market
hog last week at the Reading Fair.
The supreme champion, a Dur
oc cross gilt weighing 232 pounds,
was shown by Corey Eschbach,
10, son of George and Kathy
Stump, Shoemakersville. This is
the first supreme championship for
Corey, in the fifth grade at Reet
wood Elementary. This year,
Corey also won champion swine at
the Oley Fair.
Show judge Ken Winebark
picked the middle weight champ
ion hog shown by Corey over the
champion heavyweight in tough
competition. Winebark said that
Corey’s red/black spotted pig is a
large and heavy pig that is still lean
for its division. Tim Eschbach said
the hog was obtained from
ProGenetics/White Oak.
Winebark, Lebanon County
extension agent, picked a purebred
Hampshire gilt, weighing 2SS
pounds, shown by Jenny Rabenold
as reserve. Jenny, 17, daughter of
Carl and Brenda Rabenold, Kutz
town, showed the hog from her
family’s herd. The gilt won the
heavyweight division. Winebark
commented that the hog “explodes
in terms of overall shape and dress,
with the most thickest, fullest,
most dimensional ham” of any hog
in the competition. Winebark said.
