Berks County Executive
Board meeting was held recently
in the homp of President Fern

Scenic River days, stating this
was the last year for this event. A
special thank you to Mary Fizz
and her husband for the fruit bas
ket that was donated for the con
test Farm Women conducted
there.
Berks County Convention
plans are progressing very well,
that being on October 1, at the
Ag. Center, with our annual silent
auction. Election of officers, with
the vice president and secretary
positions open for nominees. Joan
Hafer, Lillian Harnish, and Joyce
Schott are on the nominating
committee.
Lancaster Society 20
On September 1, Lancaster
Farm Women #2O met at Zion
United Church of Christ of New
Providence with Helen Tout and
Dorothy Eckman as hostesses.
Following the refreshments,
Helen read Psalm 121 for the
Scripture and had a reading
“Sunshine.”
For the Roll Call each
responded with “a house cleaning
hint.” The treasurer had copies of
the 1995 Budget.
On October 1, the society will
have a table of baked items and
crafts at Towns Edge and help
will be needed as well as items to
be sold. Beginning in January
1995, the monthly meeting will
be held the first Thursday of the
month but will be in the forenoon,

It was reported five $l,OOO
scholarships were awarded this
past year from the sales of the
Farm Women’s cookbooks. A
hearty thanks to Naomi Bupp for
all her efforts and hard work she
has put into this wonderful pro
ject, and of all persons who pur
chased the cookbooks.

he said. All too often, according to
the forma* dairyman and seed
salesman, people bring in their
best pumpkins and Ignore other
items in the bam. They disregard a
possible exhibit of 30 ears, or the
gallon of shelled com, or the oats,
rye, and other grains that could be
potential exhibit winners.
A familiar sight at the Ephrata Fair in the park. This year’s special attraction will be
the Grand Slam Award event for those who participate in the grain, seed, forage,
tobacco, and pumpkin contests. An exhibitor can place an exhibit In each class and
accumulate points for the Grand Slam Award, worth $250.

more involved in extracurricular
work in school.” said Keener.
He said that for those young
people planning agricultural
careers, they would “do well if
they pay heed to what they could
learn and accomplish now” by
exhibiting in the contest
