Reichard Family Claims Double Honors At South Mountain Show

ARENDTSVILLE (Adams
County) A pair of Franklin
County brothers left their mark at
the combined Adams County Hol
stein and South Mountain Fair
dairy shows, taking Supreme and
Reserve Supreme honors with
their Holstein and Jersey award
winners.
Reich-Dale Warden Elegance, a
senior three-year-old exhibited by
Chris Reichard, Chambersburg,
capped her win of the Holstein
show by taking the Supreme
Champion title. Sired by Hilltop
per Elevation Warden, she was
bred by the Edgar Reichard fami
ly’s Reich-Ditle Farm, Chambers
burg, and also selected best bred
and owned in the Holstein compe
tition.
Elegance bested the runner-up
Jersey champion. Reich-Dale Sar
gent Ann, owned by Brian Reich
ard. The four-year-old Jersey is
sired by W F Justin Sargent and
was also the youth division cham
pion of the South Mountain Fair’s
Jersey breed show.
Four additional colored breed
champions rounded out the im
pressive lineup that circled for the
selection of Supreme Champion.
Representing the Ayrshircs was
the four-year-old winner, Went
worth Farm Benef Melanie, own
ed and exhibited by Richard Mar
tin. In the Milking Shorthorn
champion spot was Three Springs
Erin, a dry cow owned and exhib
ited by Glenn Crowl. Guernsey
breed champion honors went to
Hooverville Alf Roseanne, the
senior three-year-old owned by
youth exhibitor John Garber 18.
Topping the Brown Swiss (need
was Euphorias Johnny D Becky,
the four-year-old owned and ex
hibited by John and Bonnie Hess.
Selection of the Supreme was
done by judges Steve Wilson,
Parkton, Maryland, who officiated
over the colored breed classes, and
John Burket, East Freedom, who
made the Holstein show placings.
About 12S head competed in the
combined shows.
The coveted purple Premier
Breeder and Exhibitor banners
from the Holstein show were split
between two Adams County dairy
families.
Named the Premier Breeder
was Ke-Holtz Farm owned by Ke
vin and Karen Holtzinger, East
Berlin. The Holtzinger family ex
hibited a string of 19 head, includ
ing 4-H animals owned by daugh
ter Shannon, and took seven first
place wins as well as junior and
reserve junior champion titles.
Jemaro Farms, New Oxford,
owned by Jeff and Mary Kay
Roche, earned the Premier Exhibi
tor banner. Their 17-head line-up
took six blue-ribbon spots, includ
ing firsts in the 100,000-pound
and aged cow classes.
