Southwest District 4-H Dairy Show Held At Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON (Huntingdon)
The 48lh Annual Southwest
District 4-H Dairy Show was held
September 3 at the Huntingdon
County Fairgrounds in Hunting
don.
Type judge Alan Hostetler of
Annville watched as 13 Guern
seys, 37 Jerseys, 10 Milking
Shorthorn, 7 Ayrshires, 6 Brown
Swiss, and 67 Holsteins entered
the ring in their respective classes.
Showmanship judge was Kirby
Horst from Newmanstown. This
Southwest District show also lines
up group coupty classes per breed
for placing.
In the Guernsey show, Aaron
GAble of New Enterprise, Bed
ford County, won grand champion
with his Senior 2-year-old, Sni
ders Fayettes I Century. Amber
Clark, also of New Enterprise,
won reserve grand champion with
her Four-year-old, Elsview Farms
Agri AGgie-Twin. Erica Yaple’s
winter calf took the Best Animal
Bred and Owned award. Erica is
from Madera, Clearfield County.
In the Junior Guernsey show, a
fall yearling owned by Amber
Clark took junior champion hon
ors while Kendy Gable won re
serve junior champion with her
Spring Yearlilng. Both are from
New Enterprise, Bedford County.

The Jersey show again saw
Kendy Gable entered the ring with
a champion animal. Gable took
grand champion with her Four
year-old GR Sniders Sooner
Sweetie. Matthew Moyer of
Friedcns, Somerset County, won
reserve grand champion with his
Four-year-old, Saints Silver Can
dy.
The Junior Jersey saw a Winter
Calf owned by Ricki Johnson of
Somerset win junior champion
and a spring yearling owned by
Allen Knepper of Hustontown,
Fulton County, win reserve junior
champion. Johnson’s junior cham
pion also won the Best Bred and
Owned Award for the show.
The Goshom family of Blairs
Mills, Huntingdon County, won
most of the Milking Shorthorn
awards. Matt Goshom showed the
grand champion animal, a Four
year-old named Summit Vista
Dan Dixie. It was also named the
Best Bred and Owned animal for
the show. Mark Goshom won re
serve grand champion with his dry
cow, Summit Vista Roscoe Iran
Twin.
In the Junior Milking Shorthorn
Show, Matt Goshron again had the
winning animal, a winter yearling
named Summit Vista Enhance
Daisy EXP. Chriselle Fisher of
New Enterprise showed the re
serve junior champion, a Swine
Calf named Horizon Sir W Clair.
Lawanda Kling of James Creek.
Huntingdon County, showed her
Junior 2-year-old, Plainview IRS
Doris, to claim grand champion of
the Ayrshire show. Reserve grand
champion went to a four-year-old
owned by Gretchcn Yaple of
Houtzdale, Clearfield County.
This animal also won the Best
Bred and Owned Award.
In the Junior Ayrshire show,
Rachel McCutcheon from Al
toona. Blair County, took junior
champion with her Fall Calf and
Sara K. Hayden of Huntingdon
took reserve junior champion with
her summer yearling.
Brown Swiss grand champion
went to Brandy Homing of Hunt
ingdon. Her fall yearling, Tow
path Elation Pepsi, took the top
honor. Rhonda McCready’s fall
calf was placed in the reserve
junior champion position. Me-
Cready is from Duncansville,
Blair County.
In the final show of the day,
Lory Baker entered the ring with
what was to become the grand
champion animal. Baker, from
McConnellsburg, Huntingdon
County, showed her Four-year
old, Globe Run Top Gun Oslo, to
claim the top award. J.D. Kelly of
Tyrone, Blair County, showed his
five-year-old, Spring-Lane Mark
Alexi, to win reserve grand cham
pion. The Best Bred and Owned
Award went to Amanda Cessna
and her spring yearling, Brush-
Creek-Vu Raidr Secret. Cessna is
from Everett, Bedford County.
Amanda Cessna also took
junior champion honors with this
same heifer. William Mosholder,
Rockwood, Somerset County,
earned reserve junior champion
with his summer yearling, Mossys
Blackstar Minnie.
