WEST CHESTER (Chester
Co.) For the fifth year in a row,
the Chester County 4-H Beef Club
members were fortunate to hold
their show and sale at the Kimber
ton Fire Company Fairgrounds
and what a show and sale they had
for their fifth year.
It was a beautiful day as 19 top
quality steers were exhibited in
front of judge Larry Weaver.
Judge Weaver commended the
4-H members on the extremely
good job that they did in raising
top quality 4-H steers, steers that
would be acceptable to both the
packer and the consumer.
The champion steer chosen by
Judge Weaver was a 1,245-pound
Angus steer bred by John Hunt of
Spring City and shown by Jennifer
Dunleavy of Glenmoore. The
steer was purchased that afternoon
by Hoss’s Steak House in Lion
ville for a record-breaking
$2.75/pound.
Hoss’s also purchased the 4-H
club steer that was donated by Ken
Walker of Honey Brook and fed
by Conrad Grove, long-time An
gus breeder of Downingtown, for
$1,748.50. Hoss’s donated the
steer back to the club to re-sell it
again for the Center. The
1,345-pound steeer was then pur
chased by Thrifty Pallet Company
of West Chester, owned by Bill
Fairbaim, for $1,008.75.
Jon Marsch of Potts town exhib
ited the reserve grand champion
market steer, which weighed
1,160 pounds, and was purchased
by Herr Foods, Inc. for a record
breaking $2/pound. The steer was
then donated to the House of His
Creation in Sadsburyville. Eleven
steers were sold for an average
price of $1.13/pound, a record
breaking average for Chester
County 4-H members. Eight steers
were selected to represent Chester
